SurgiBox, a US-based provider of portable surgical solutions, is set to introduce its SurgiField technology in Japan through a partnership with Accord International, a Japanese medical distribution company.
The collaboration follows regulatory approval from Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), allowing the distribution of the technology across the country.
Accord International specialises in importing and distributing medical products, including emergency and life-saving solutions, from the US. Through this agreement, the company will distribute SurgiField technology to hospitals, emergency medical teams, and other healthcare providers in Japan.
The technology is intended to support surgical procedures in locations where access to traditional operating theatres is unavailable or limited.
Accord International president, Kaname Wakabayashi said: “Japan has many natural disasters. We look forward to working closely with SurgiBox to ensure that the SurgiField reaches those who need it most, whether in bustling cities or isolated regions.”
SurgiField is a portable sterile environment powered by a battery and designed for surgical use in various settings.
The system includes the SurgiBubble, a disposable sterile device that provides a physical barrier to isolate the surgical site. It also features the Smart Control Module, a reusable battery-powered device that filters air using high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters to maintain a sterile space.
The SurgiBubble is a single-use product that creates a contained sterile environment, while the Smart Control Module enables inflation and airflow management.
A supporting component, the Pop-Up Frame, provides structural support to the SurgiBubble during use. Together, these components are designed to create a sterile environment for safe surgical procedures.
SurgiBox business development director Kelly Laurel said: “We are excited to partner with Accord International.
“This collaboration marks an important step to make safe surgery available anywhere. With Accord International’s deep network and understanding of the Japanese market, we are confident that the SurgiField will become an invaluable asset in Japan’s healthcare landscape.”
