India’s first medical devices manufacturing park at Nadupuru near the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh has been opened by the state’s Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The park hopes to attract between 200 and 300 individual manufacturing units and employ over 25,000 people.
The 226-acre allotment, registration, and State Cabinet clearance and sanction by the Union Ministry of Health was fast-tracked in less than seven months, the minister added at its official opening ceremony, evidence og India’s desire to join the lucrative market.
The Minister also stated that he hoped the park would start functioning within a year to help reduce healthcare costs in India, reduce the nation's dependence on imports from the Europe, the US, China and other countries, and establish India as an exporter of medical devices in the near future.
