Align Technology has commercially released a new version of its Invisalign System featuring integrated mandibular advancement with occlusal blocks.

The system is aimed at treating Class II skeletal and dental malocclusions in growing patients.

It marks the company’s first integration of solid occlusal blocks into its clear aligner product portfolio, enabling simultaneous jaw advancement and teeth alignment in a single treatment pathway.

Align Technology executive vice president, chief product and digital officer Sreelakshmi Kolli said: “The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks reflects Align’s continued commitment to expanding the capabilities of the Invisalign System, enabling doctors to treat a wider range of malocclusions with precision and efficiency, and helps to continue to advance clear aligners as the standard of care in digital orthodontics.

“This latest innovation demonstrates our significant investment in delivering digital orthodontic solutions to growing patients that empower doctors to achieve predictable outcomes while enhancing the patient experience.”

The latest iteration of the Invisalign System targets growing patients aged between 10 and 16 years, typically in the late mixed or early permanent dentition stages.

Align Technology stated that this age group offers a clinically advantageous period for interceptive treatment, given their ongoing craniofacial development.

The integrated occlusal blocks are engineered to support early mandibular advancement, particularly for Class II cases involving deep bites and division 2 presentations, which may otherwise require additional pre-treatment interventions.

Class II malocclusion is characterised by a retruded mandible relative to the maxilla and accounts for a significant share of orthodontic cases globally. The new system aims to streamline its management by combining the functionality of traditional orthodontic appliances with the clear aligner format.

Occlusal blocks in this new system are solid and laser welded to maintain structural integrity and minimise deformation during treatment. Their inclusion also enables vertical opening of the bite, a factor that contributes to earlier mandibular positioning in specific patient subsets.

Align Technology stated that the new Invisalign System uses its proprietary SmartTrack aligner material, combined with SmartForce and SmartStage technologies, to enable controlled and predictable tooth movement.

The solid occlusal blocks are designed to accommodate attachments on teeth underneath the blocks, which support simultaneous levelling and tooth guidance. This configuration allows the system to address skeletal discrepancies while concurrently managing dental alignment.

The product release expands Align Technology’s Class II treatment offerings, which also include the Invisalign First system, the Invisalign Palatal Expander, and versions incorporating enhanced precision wings.

The new occlusal block-integrated aligner is currently available to Invisalign-certified providers in Australia and New Zealand and has been launched under limited release in select markets in North America and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.
