Bayer has received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System designed to enhance workflow efficiency, especially in high-volume CT suites.

The system integrates with Bayer’s product portfolio, offering significant value to radiology departments.

Bayer said the MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System helps address these challenges as there is a shortage of radiology technologists and a growing demand for medical imaging in the US.

Bayer radiology Americas region head Sven Schmidt said: “The FDA clearance further demonstrates our nearly 40 years of CT innovation and commitment to delivering effective technologies to improve diagnostic imaging for patients.

“We know radiologists today are facing a continuously increasing workload, and the automation, integration and mobility of the MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System helps radiology staff do more with less, allowing them more time to focus on their patients.”

The MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System is designed to reduce patient set-up time and streamline workflows with new technology.

The pre-assembled Day Set makes it easy to complete the multi-patient set-up in under two minutes. The snap-in patient line auto-primes upon insertion, making it ready for the next patient in less than 20 seconds.

Additionally, the integrated barcode reader ensures easy traceability and quick access to contrast and injection details when paired with Automated Documentation software for efficient data entry.

Furthermore, the system features piston-based technology and Dual Flow, which allows for the simultaneous delivery of contrast and saline, offering greater flexibility for demanding protocols.

According to the German biotechnology company, the MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System helps radiology technologists improve efficiency, safety, and workflow amid rising imaging demand.

The system features two check valves in the patient line to reduce cross-contamination risk, along with air detection and removal technology in the day set, ensuring safety and reliability.

By streamlining processes, the system helps radiology technologists focus more on patient care, reducing administrative burdens, especially in high-throughput environments.

Integration with Bayer’s portfolio of imaging and workflow solutions allows healthcare providers to optimise contrast use and enhance connectivity with modality worklists and scanners, improving overall efficiency.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada, was the first hospital in North America to install Bayer’s MEDRAD Centargo CT Injection System in both acute care and outpatient settings.
