German medtech company KARL STORZ has announced the acquisition of the medical business of T1V, a US-based visual collaboration software company.

T1V has been working with KARL STORZ for years to build the latter’s CollaboratOR portfolio, which has been sold since 2018.

KARL STORZ said that the acquisition will help to shape integrated hardware and software solutions for digital surgery in operating rooms worldwide. The move also complements its advanced endoscopes and medical solutions.

The company further strengthens its offerings by integrating T1V’s digital expertise and intellectual property, including visual collaboration software patents.

Additionally, this integration boosts multi-touch interaction, cloud collaboration, low-latency streaming, multi-view windowing, and remote support, solidifying the CollaboratOR’s role in KARL STORZ’s expanding digital ecosystem.

The acquired T1V medical business will be fully integrated into KARL STORZ over the next 12 months, including all operations, research and development activities, sales support, and technical services.

As part of the acquisition, 10 T1V employees connected to the medical business will transition to the medtech company.

KARL STORZ chief operating officer Stefan Ort said: “This strategic acquisition underscores our commitment to preparing for future opportunities to advance progress in digital surgery and shape the future of medicine.

“It ensures the future development of our CollaboratOR range, which enhances our ability to empower healthcare partners to excel daily, improving patients’ lives globally.”

T1V, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, is an innovator in large-scale interactive technology.

Its flagship platform, ThinkHub, offers a dynamic digital workspace for flexible collaboration. It empowers teams to connect from anywhere, on any device.

T1V also collaborates with firms to develop custom, touch-interactive products tailored to specific industry needs. Its software ecosystem ensures complete interoperability with a wide range of devices, programmes, and platforms, enhancing collaboration in meeting and learning environments.

The CollaboratOR portfolio offers a cloud-based hardware and software cloud ecosystem.

It provides surgical teams with real-time clinical data, pre-operative and real-time images, preference cards, and critical information throughout the peri-operative process via a large-format touch display.

The cloud ecosystem enhances real-time collaboration during surgery and improves workflow in healthcare enterprises.

Last year, Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, a subsidiary of Karl Storz, acquired Asensus Surgical, a provider of operating room digital solutions.
