Nipro Medical has announced an investment of around $398m to build its first North American medical device manufacturing facility in Greenville, North Carolina, US.

The investment will be done over the next five years and is expected to generate 232 new jobs.

Nipro Medical is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Nipro, a company specialising in medical, pharmaceutical, and glass products.

The new manufacturing facility in North Carolina will expand Nipro Medical’s presence in the US. The company manufactures medical devices and healthcare solutions.

Nipro Medical said that it will decrease global transportation requirements significantly with the new plant in US, thereby reducing carbon emissions.

The initiative supports Nipro’s commitment to minimising environmental impact and promoting a sustainable future.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said: “We are delighted to welcome Nipro to North Carolina.

“This initiative not only reinforces our status as a prime location for advanced manufacturing but also demonstrates our state’s capability in providing a skilled workforce and a superior quality of life.”

The new facility to be located in Pitt County represents Nipro’s inaugural venture into manufacturing advanced medical devices directly for the US market.

The manufacturing site will offer various roles, including engineering, production, administrative, and management positions. It will manufacture medical devices to support patients dealing with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other renal health conditions.

Nipro Medical CEO Akira Shimizu said: “This new facility marks a major milestone in Nipro’s commitment to the US market, allowing us to deliver high-quality medical devices that enhance patient outcomes and quality of life across the country.”

In 2021, Nipro established a vascular division in the US. The division is engaged in developing a range of advanced technologies, including cardiovascular and vascular products.
