Medical technology company Olympus has introduced two new jaw designs in its POWERSEAL Sealer/Divider line of advanced bipolar surgical energy products.
The new designs consist of the POWERSEAL Straight Jaw, Double-action (SJDA) and the POWERSEAL Curved Jaw, Single-action (CJSA).
The launch follows the launch of the first POWERSEAL device, the POWERSEAL Curved Jaw, Double-action (CJDA), which was launched in 2021.
The POWERSEAL range now features three jaw designs, each available in three shaft lengths to accommodate various surgical techniques and preferences for dissection, grasping, and sealing.
These advanced bipolar surgical energy devices are engineered to maintain clinical performance, ensuring reliable and rapid vessel sealing.
They feature a multifunctional feature set and ergonomic design designed with procedural efficiency and surgeon comfort in mind.
According to Olympus, each POWERSEAL design requires less squeeze force to close the jaws compared to competitor devices, without compromising jaw force or sealing effectiveness.
The POWERSEAL Sealer/Divider family of devices enhances Olympus’s surgical energy portfolio, which includes the THUNDERBEAT hybrid energy devices and SONICBEAT ultrasonic dissectors.
The devices offer surgeons capabilities for both laparoscopic and open surgeries. They can be used for procedures including general surgery, gynaecological, colorectal, bariatric, urological, thoracic, and vascular surgeries.
Olympus global vice president and therapeutic solutions division surgical devices general manager Phil Roy said: “Meeting physician needs continues to be the primary driver of the product design and functionality.
“POWERSEAL devices are developed with a commitment to meeting our goals of sealing strength, efficiency and physician comfort.”
The POWERSEAL single-use devices offer advanced features designed to enhance surgical efficiency and comfort. They provide sealing for pulmonary vessels and tissue bundles up to and including 7mm in size.
In addition, the devices also minimise tissue sticking, comparable to nano-coated products.
Furthermore, the POWERSEAL devices allow energy activation without fully closing the jaws, enabling precise coagulation of surface bleeders or activation on thick tissue.
Olympus also offers the ESG-410 Surgical Energy Platform for use in any operating room. The platform powers a wide range of Olympus Energy systems, including monopolar, bipolar, ultrasonic, hybrid energy, and advanced bipolar.
Currently, the POWERSEAL SJDA and CJSA devices are cleared for use in the US, the European Union (EU), Canada, Australia, and other countries. The POWERSEAL CJDA is available globally except in China.
In May 2023, the medical technology firm fully launched its POWERSEAL family of devices in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
