Omnivision has partnered with Biotech Dental to integrate its imaging technology into the latter’s Scan4All 3D intraoral scanners Iris by Starck.
The collaboration focuses on enhancing scanning precision and efficiency by incorporating Omnivision’s advanced camera modules.
Omnivision is a semiconductor technology developer while Biotech Dental designs and manufactures medical devices and digital solutions for dental applications.
The handheld scanners are said to generate high-resolution digital impressions of teeth and gums, which are used in restorative and implant procedures. Traditional dental impression methods rely on moulds that can be cumbersome and less precise.
The latest design incorporates multiple imaging sensors, a departure from conventional scanners that typically use a single sensor, to enhance efficiency and precision in capturing three-dimensional models.
Biotech Dental CEO Philippe VERAN said: “We partnered with Omnivision due to the wide range of imaging solutions they offer for dental applications.
“Most importantly, Omnivision’s camera modules are developed and tested specifically for the medical and dental markets and have a long lifetime, which in turn, ensures that our intraoral scanners retain their value and remain a high-quality solution for our customers.”
Omnivision’s CameraCubeChip modules are integrated into the scanners to support high-speed imaging. The OCH2B30 model is equipped with a square-format CMOS image sensor capable of delivering a resolution of 1500 x 1500 at 60 frames per second or 720p at 120 frames per second.
The OCHSA10 model provides an 800 x 800 resolution at 60 frames per second or 400 x 400 at 90 frames per second. The OVM9724 front-facing module records 720p video at 30 frames per second.
The OCH2B30 and OCHSA10 models incorporate PureCelPlus-S stacked-die technology to enable a compact design, while the OVM9724 module is developed using OmniBSI+ pixel architecture to enhance image quality.
The CameraCubeChip technology eliminates the need for additional optical components, streamlining the manufacturing process for dental imaging devices.
Omnivision’s imaging solutions comply with ISO13485 standards, undergoing testing for electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility, sterilisation, and biocompatibility. The modules are designed to be waterproof and do not require calibration, as they are tested to meet electrical, mechanical, and optical specifications.
Omnivision medical product marketing manager Ehsan Ayar said: “Biotech Dental offers innovative, high-quality solutions for the dental industry. We are excited to partner with them to enhance their next-generation intraoral scanners, which will use several of our medical-grade high-resolution image sensors, taking dental visualisation to the next level.”
