Royal Philips has unveiled its next-generation 1.5T BlueSeal MRI system, with a 70cm wide-bore design and AI-powered MR Smart Workflow solutions to improve patient outcomes.

The MR Smart Workflow solution builds on the company’s Smart Reading technology, a cloud-based AI toolset that integrates imaging and reading on the MR scanner.

Also, the AI solution enhances daily patient throughput without compromising diagnostic quality, addressing the needs of high-demand healthcare environments.

The Smart Reading technology provides fully automated AI-based quantitative reports, in partnership with icometrix for neurological indications and Quibim for prostate cancer.

Philips MRI global business leader Ioannis Panagiotelis said: “Philips invented helium-free operations in MRI, and since its launch in 2018, we have installed more than 1,500 BlueSeal systems globally in wide-ranging settings including the world’s first helium-free mobile MRI units.

“With AI applications seamlessly integrated into our latest 1.5T BlueSeal scanner, we have now applied AI to every aspect of the MRI workflow – from patient set-up and high-resolution image capture to quantitative data extraction, advanced diagnostics, and reporting.

“With this latest innovation, we continue our commitment to deliver wider access to quality MRI to more patients across multiple settings.”

According to Philips, the eco-friendly design of the BlueSeal MRI with helium-free operations makes it the lightest 1.5T 70cm MRI system available in the market.

It is up to 1,700kg lighter in weight, doesn’t need a vent pipe, and allows flexible installations in new locations, including elevated floors or indoor sites with construction limitations.

Philips’ new wide-bore BlueSeal MR system with Smart Workflow planning and image acquisition solutions leverages AI to support technologists in the entire MRI process.

The AI-enabled workflow solutions deliver quick, consistent, and accurate imaging, to enhance efficiency and diagnostic confidence.

Its important components include SmartExam, SmartFit, SmartSpeed, SmartQuant, and SmartReading technologies to deliver fast, consistent, and precise imaging.

In a separate development, Insightec secured the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and CE mark of its Exablate Prime system, used with certain Philips MR systems.

Exablate Prime can be integrated with a few compatible Philips 1.5T and 3.0T systems, including Philips Ambition 1.5T, Philips Elition 3.0T, and Philips MR 7700 3.0T.

Insightec said the FDA and CE mark approvals expand the accessibility of non-invasive MR-guided focused ultrasound treatments for patients and healthcare providers.

Insightec CEO and board chairman Maurice R. Ferré said: “This is the result of a dedicated collaboration between Insightec and Philips. We are proud of adding Philips to our extended family.

“Our goal is to make these groundbreaking solutions accessible to more treatment centres, ultimately benefitting patients with cutting-edge care.”
