Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology firm Synchron has unveiled its roadmap for Chiral, a foundational model of human cognition for the development of Cognitive AI.
The company is advancing BCI from supervised to self-supervised learning by integrating large-scale neural data with NVIDIA’s AI-powered computing capabilities.
Synchron showcased its AI-enabled BCI, powered by the NVIDIA Holoscan platform, on the Apple Vision Pro at the GTC 2025 event.
The technology allows users to control digital and physical environments using Synchron’s Stentrode direct thought-control technology.
Synchron CEO and founder Tom Oxley said: “We are building a brain foundation model using generative pre-training techniques that learn directly from neural data—abstracting human cognition at its source – to create features that improve our user’s lives.
“This is possible because of our ability to scale large datasets, by making BCI as common as a stent insertion.”
Synchron’s collaboration with NVIDIA focuses on three key milestones, motor inference powered by NVIDIA Holoscan, context-aware interaction using NVIDIA Cosmos, and training Chiral.
NVIDIA Holoscan enables real-time neural decoding with minimal latency and allows users to easily control digital environments through thought.
NVIDIA Cosmos integrates environmental awareness and Cosmos World foundation models create realistic simulations of domestic environments.
The simulations generate richly labelled datasets that enhance motor inference accuracy, adaptability, and fine-tuning, making interactions more predictive and intuitive.
Chiral is a foundational brain model pre-trained on deidentified data.
Synchron’s scalable neurotechnology, delivered through a minimally invasive transcatheter approach, enables population-level neural data collection.
The collaboration between Synchron and NVIDIA is paving the way for the first large-scale foundation model of the brain.
By training AI on neural signals, Chiral aims to evolve into a self-learning model of cognition, representing a significant leap in AI evolution beyond Generative AI and Agentic AI.
NVIDIA business development senior director David Niewolny said: “We are witnessing a new computing paradigm, where technology is no longer just responding to people, it’s empowering them in entirely new ways.
“By combining its breakthrough BCI technology with NVIDIA AI and Omniverse, Synchron is helping to deliver new possibilities for individuals with disabilities, enabling greater independence, communication, and connection with the world.”
