Kontron, a leading supplier of embedded computing technology, introduces the new Clinic-BPC B-101 for clinical processes. The system was developed specifically for applications in the medical environment, in particular for use close to patients. The PC stands out thanks to easy installation and cabling as well as the use of energy-efficient components. The Clinic-BPC B-101 has three LAN ports and flexible DVI and VGA interfaces to enable both existing analogue displays and more modern digital displays to be connected without any problems.
"There is currently a discernible trend for hospitals and clinics to want to specialize more strongly and install high-quality IT for their departments in a very targeted manner," says Jens Unrath, director business development Medical at Kontron. "Particularly in monitoring environments, such as intensive care wards, highly productive IT installations are required that stand out thanks to silent operation and dedicated certification."
IT-based information systems are now indispensable in the medical sector to enable fast action in emergency situations or to monitor patient vital data continuously. In intensive care wards in particular, permanent observation is absolutely essential and needs special installations. Operators and system integrators want hardware systems that offer a reduction in Ethernet cables, enable the
connection of several monitors and stand out thanks to maintenance-free design.
In the shape of the Clinic-BPC B-101, Kontron presents a new clinical PC that recommends itself for use in the medical environment. Due to the special usage situation, the computer was designed without a fan, thereby enabling silent operation. The Clinic-BPC B-101 has three medically isolated LAN ports and, optionally, isolated RS232 interfaces, as well as two independent, external monitor
outputs (DVI-I and DVI-D) to enable the simultaneous display of the electronic patient file and the monitoring of vital data.
The system was designed in conformity with DIN EN 60601-1 for the particular safety of electronic devices in medical environments. The Clinic-BPC B-101 is maintenance-free thanks to non-rotating components, energy-efficient parts, such as mobile Intel® Core™ processors, long-lasting hardware and a sealed case. With its integrated Ethernet switch, this box PC can be connected in sequence
(daisy chaining) which enables simple cabling in any patient’s room. As well as a quick SSD, the system also has 4GB of DDR3 RAM and four USB 3.0 ports. The robust plastic case is scratch- and corrosion-proof and resistant to cleaning detergents. It therefore offers long durability and is easy to clean and disinfect. As an option, OEM customers can have their own logo imprinted.
The Clinic-BPC B-101 is available from the end of 2014 and Kontron guarantees long-term availability until 2019.
